THE LAURIE MORVAN BAND

Friday
February 1st & 2nd
9:00 pm–1:30 am

Laurie Morvan Band is a 5 piece high energy, rockin’ blues band lead by its fiery female lead guitarist vocalist. A pumpin’, thumpin’, tight-as-nails machine from Long Beach, CA, the LMB has fired up over 70 festivals and 700 shows together throughout the USA, Canada and Europe. So much more than just a wailin’ guitar slinger, Laurie is a charismatic performer whose stage presence is both powerful and inviting. Her songwriting has a fresh perspective, and her in-between-song banter alternates between inspirational and flat out hilarious. Audiences feel a genuine connection with her and she enjoys spending time with them after shows signing autographs, talking, and posing for photos.
Laurie Morvan Band concerts feature the beautiful harmonies of Laurie and backup singer Lisa Morvan, as well as dueling solos between Laurie, keyboardist Tom Salyers and bassist Pat Morvan. Drummer Lonnie Jones drives this high-octane train. They are a tight-knit unit who love performing and recording CDs together. Their fun-loving enthusiasm leaps right off the stage…and it’s contagious!

EASTERN WAYS LION DANCERS

Friday
February 5th – Chinese New Year!
On the Casino Floor!

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Lion Dance is one of China’s oldest and most unique cultural arts. Exciting to watch and difficult to perform, lion dance captivate audiences of all ages. Lion dancing requires coordination between 2 performers: the Head and the Tail. The Head controls the movements of the lion head: the eyes, the mouth, the ears. The Head also raises the lion up and lowers it down. This makes the Head responsible for most of the expression of the lion and for directing the Tail. The Tail controls the movements of the body, making the lion look alive and animated. The Tail also has to be very strong, in order to maintain the Tail position throughout a performance. When the lion is doing jumps or lifts, the Tail has to be able to lift the Head and hold her upright.
To prepare for the lion dance, performers have to practice the lion dance regularly. In traditional Southern Shaolin Kung Fu, lion dancing provided an excellent way to condition the body and improve flexibility and strength. At Eastern Ways, lion dancers are all Kung Fu students, keeping this tradition alive.

It began by going on road trips, camping, and fishing with our family, listening and singing to country music classics. In 2012, the fire of country music was lit in us, we started playing every available moment of every day! From then on we had a dream; that was to be on stage in front of thousands of fans, who share the same love for country music that we do.
